A great opportunity for young people to make new friends and embark on a new adventure with the Sea Cadets.

The Sea Cadets have been based in Ramsgate since 1925 and at our current home above the Sailors Church since 1947. Over 15,000 young people in the UK, aged between 10 and 18, belong to the Corps which is supported by thousands of fully trained adult volunteers.

Here in Ramsgate, we meet twice weekly and embrace the traditions of the Royal Navy. Many of our activities are carried out on the water with cadets very quickly becoming skilled in rowing or power boating. The cadets learn about navigation, ropework, first aid, engineering, naval customs, how to play a musical instrument and much more. We provide them with a uniform and all proficiency badges.

Our cadets quickly learn leadership skills, self-discipline, gain confidence, and a sense of purpose, all the while having fun and making new friends. They have a chance to sail on the Corps offshore tall ships, visit Royal Navy warships, Border Force vessels and attend training courses around the country.

Ramsgate & Broadstairs Cadets are supported incredibly well by the Town Council in many projects but our latest and possibly most impressive is a ship navigation simulator. This is a state-of-the-art system, which has been used by the Royal Navy’s Aircraft Carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth and across the world in the Maritime industry. In the past three years, cadets have left us to join the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, the Merchant Navy and even one crewing a luxury yacht. We hope the simulator will enhance possible career opportunities for our young people.

Everyone looks after each other at the Ramsgate Sea Cadets. There's a lot of respect in the air, and many teenagers and volunteers say it feels like a second family.

We take this responsibility extremely seriously and have robust, active safeguarding practices in place to ensure all young people feel secure and protected, plus all our volunteers receive the highest quality training.

The unit is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7pm to 9pm) and we can be contacted on 0300 772 7087 or email ramsgatebroadstairsscc@msn.com.

Or you may just want to pop down to the unit as there will always be someone available for a chat.
