News / Community Efforts Shine in Ramsgate's Spring Clean Campaign
Spring is not only a time for blooming flowers and warmer weather but also an opportunity for communities to come together and tackle litter. In Ramsgate, this spirit was evident as residents, local leaders, and volunteers joined hands for the annual Spring Clean campaign.
Over the past couple of weeks, Ramsgate witnessed a flurry of clean-up activities, with 13 Spring Clean litter picks organised between March 22nd and 30th. Spearheaded by dedicated individuals and groups, these efforts aimed to beautify the town and promote environmental stewardship.
Tricia provided a comprehensive summary of the campaign's achievements. The results speak volumes about the community's commitment to keeping Ramsgate clean and green.
The numbers are impressive: 105 volunteers registered, demonstrating a strong sense of civic pride and engagement. What's even more remarkable is that many volunteers participated in multiple clean-up sessions, showcasing their dedication to the cause. Among the volunteers were not only local residents but also visitors who enthusiastically joined in the efforts.
The collective impact of these endeavours is evident in the staggering amount of litter collected. A total of 344 bags of rubbish and recycling were gathered during the Spring Clean events. Additionally, individual litter pickers, inspired by Keep Britain Tidy's Spring Clean fortnight, contributed an extra 68 bags, bringing the grand total to an impressive 412 bags.
The commitment to sustainability didn't stop there. Volunteers made efforts to separate recyclables, although the exact count got lost amidst the flurry of activity. Nonetheless, their dedication to responsible waste management is commendable.
Tricia's initial estimates may have been off, but the overwhelming response from the community surpassed all expectations. Not only did the Spring Clean attract new members to the Ramsgate Litter Pickers Facebook group, but it also inspired residents to take ownership of their neighbourhoods by committing to regular clean-ups.
Acknowledgments are due to all those who played a part in making the campaign a success. Special appreciation goes to the Councillors who led litter picks in their respective wards and to key individuals like Guy Sawtell and Maxine Morgan, whose unwavering support and dedication were instrumental in the campaign's execution.
Looking ahead, there is optimism that increased funding for street cleaning will lead to a cleaner, litter-free Ramsgate in the future. However, the community remains vigilant, ready to mobilise if the need arises again.
As the Spring Clean campaign draws to a close, attention now shifts to the upcoming Litter Forum meeting scheduled for April 24th. This forum serves as a platform for ongoing discussions and collaborations aimed at sustaining the momentum generated during the Spring Clean.
