A Message from the Mayor of Ramsgate - July 2022

05 July 2022

I hope that you are enjoying the summer. It’s wonderful to see so many visitors coming to our town and beaches, bringing in much needed revenue.

I would first like to say how delighted I am to continue as Mayor of Ramsgate for 2022-23. I am truly honoured and feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to carry on serving and supporting the Ramsgate community and I will continue to be an ambassador for the town in every possible way, locally, nationally and internationally. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Councillor Pat Moore on her re-appointment as Deputy Mayor and look forward to working with her in the year ahead.

We are fortunate to have two amazing street cleaners who work extremely hard to keep our town and the seaside clean. I was delighted, along with our fabulous volunteers, to organise a town centre litter picking event as part of the Great Ramsgate Spring Clean. Thank you to Councillor Becky Wing, Councillor Tricia Austin, the Ramsgate Town Council Technicians and the volunteers who helped on the day, and the Ramsgate Litter Forum organisers for this wonderful initiative to make our town a beautiful place to live in and for people to visit.

I was invited to Newington School to join the pupils and teachers for a litter picking session, which was part of their Good Gym initiative. The Good Gym Club has been set up to help the school children get fit whilst doing good works. The children are set challenges from teachers and staff, which include litter picking and helping to tidy communal areas. This is an excellent initiative for the younger generation to participate in and at the same time learn about the importance of keeping the environment clean and tidy. I would like to thank Ramsgate born and bred Head Teacher, Hannah Tudor and PE teacher Mr Bennett for inviting me. It was my pleasure to donate litter pickers to this worthy cause. I am pleased to see that the school is doing so well and that pupils are so proud of their school.

If you are free, please join me at my monthly litter picking event which takes place on the last Thursday of every month. Meet at 10:30am at The Salvation Army, 167 High Street, CT11 9TT.

It was my privilege to organise an Easter treat community meal of Indian food at the St George’s Church Hall in Broad Street, where we served over 80 guests. A massive thank you to all the volunteers for their wonderful hospitality and for giving their time every week to keep the Our Kitchen food club running.
