With the summer season upon us, we’re excited to unveil some of the new activities we’ve been working on with our partners for the coming months and beyond.

See the sights by bike
First up, we’re pleased to announce the launch of a new cycling experience from Ramsgate, as a partnership between Col’s Kent Bike Tours and Harbour Bikes.

The Thanet Coast tour starts at the Harbour Bikes arch on Military Road and kicks off with a visit to our iconic lighthouse, before gliding past the former home of visionary architect Augustus Pugin, and on to the serene St Augustine’s Abbey. From there, you’ll do a loop around the Thanet Coast, taking in Botany Bay on the way, before returning to the harbour for a sundowner.

It’s a great way to see some of our town’s finest sights and our incredible coastal scenery, all while wheeling along! You can book a tour via Colin’s website at: www.bit.ly/AR-BikeTour

(PS No bike? No problem – you can include a hire bike in your booking.)

Explore (more) of the shore
With two great beaches in our town, we’ve got plenty of exploring opportunities along our shore.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Thanet Coast Project to expand its family fun programme of exploratory activities along our bit of the coast.

You and your kids can join a two-hour Seashore Safari and see what weird and wonderful rock pool wildlife they can find. Or take on a 90-minute Scavenger Hunt to find clues of life from our seas – including shark cases and mermaid’s purses!

The full schedule of events in Ramsgate is shown here – but be sure to book ahead! All the events are run with the help of the friendly (and knowledgeable) Thanet Coast volunteers, so a suggested donation of £2.50 per person is very welcome. Find out more and book at: www.thanetcoast.org.uk

Active Ramsgate Week and more...
We’re looking forward to unveiling yet more fun activities to come as well as celebrating the return of Active Ramsgate Week from Sunday May 26 to Sunday June 2 – which will be a chance for residents to try out the whole range of activities on offer.

We’re still finalising the details of specific events at the time of writing (March), but each day will have a different theme from walking, cycling, water-sporting and exploring. Whether you’re a walker, two-wheeler or a wave-maker, there will be something for everyone!

Keep an eye on the website – www.visitramsgate.co.uk – for full details. Follow @VisitRamsgate for the latest offers and competitions coming your way!

And finally, a new home for Active Ramsgate?
Have you spotted anything different along the Main Sands?

We’ve been working with Thanet District Council to bring back to life the community beach hut that fell into disrepair during the pandemic.

We hope the soon-to-be refurbished hut will be a new home for all things Active Ramsgate – with games and family fun activities for everyone to enjoy – as well as being a main information point for residents and visitors alike during the weekends of the summer months.

We’re also inviting local groups to make the most of it – families, swimmers, schools – anyone who wants to run an activity down at the beach but needs a base to run it from: please get in touch to find out more.

Stay in touch
As ever, we want Active Ramsgate to be an initiative that all our residents can take part in, and take pride in.

The best way to keep up with developments is to sign up to our newsletter: www.bit.ly/AR-Signup

And if you have an idea to help – or want to get involved – please get in touch. We’re all ears!
