History:
Mrs. Dunn was the daughter of Mr. J. Darby who established a business
as a Pork Butcher in the High Street.

She attended a private school in the town, and was apprenticed to the
Drapery trade, working in Margate, Brighton and Croydon, returning to
Ramsgate where she married Mr. E. Dunn in 1890. Widely travelled,
visiting Canada, Russia and parts of Europe.

She acted as Mayoress to her uncle, Alderman J.N. Chapman in 1914,
and it was this which drew her into public life.

During World War II she was active in canteen work, and sending
parcels to prisoners of war. Also helped with the administration of the
Prince of Wales fund.

1. Inaugurated the Ramsgate League of Honour, for women and girls,
which grew to 2000 members.

2. Co-opted onto council in 1917 as a representative for West Cliff
Ward.

3. Chairman of the Library Committee; the maternity and Child welfare
Sub Committee, Medical and attendance sub-committee of the
Education committee. Also involved as a member of the health watch,
Finance and Higher Education committees.

4. 1932 elected Mayor also appointed at the same time to aldermanic
bench.

5. 1936 Freedom of the Borough confered upon her.

6. President of the Ramsgate (Southern Railway) Division of St. John's
Ambulance Brigade.

7. Involved actively with women and children, went to prize givings and
helped with Mothercraft Club at Curtis house.

8. Charities she helped;
Thanet Advertiser Santa Claus Fund, providing jerseys for needy
children
President of Ramsgate general hospital
Chairman of Ramsgate and Broadstairs District Tuberculosis care
committee.
Local association for the blind
President of womens section of Ramsgate branch of the British Legion
Member of Isle of Thanet Lodge of Manchester Unity independent order
of odd fellows.

9. Affectionally known as "Auntie Flo".

Died at home, "High Cliffe", Prospect-terrace, Ramsgate on Good Friday
1945 aged 83.

She worked up until November 1944 before illness confined her duties
and activities.

also invested in the health of the community.
