Mayor of Ramsgate / Alderman Arthur William Larkin

History:
Was a builder with a business at Effingham Street Ramsgate and High
Street Broadstairs.
Representative of K.C.C.
1. Member of Kent Education Committee. Also Chairman of governors
of Chatham House County School when opened in 1909.
Donated Larkin Cup for music and singing.
2. Born in Chislet, came to Ramsgate as a boy, was one of the
foundation scholars of St. George's Central Schools.
3. Entered town council as a representative of West Cliff Ward in
1904, raised to aldermanic bench.
4. Retired from Council in 1915 after 21 years service.
5. During his offices as Mayor the development of St. Lawrence Cliffs
estate was begun.
6. An organist of ability - played at St. Paul's Church from 1886 to 1922.
Later organist at Holy Trinity Church, then St. Mary's.
7. Was Freemason connected with Lewises Lodge (No. 1209) of which he
was a Master in 1902, and the St. Lawrence Lodge (No.3350).
8. Received Provincial Honours in Kent as Grand Organist in 1912 and in
Arch Free Masonry as P.G. and St B.
9. Held office as president of the Isle of Thanet Master Builders and
Decorators association.
10. Member of Chamber of Commerce and Advancement Association.
Died Saturday 11th January 1935.
