/ Croquet Open Day Returns!
Croquet is one of the most recognizable games and yet it is also one of the most misunderstood. Leo Tolstoy, Winston Churchill and even Bart Simpson have played, thoroughly enjoying the game. Many families get great enjoyment from playing in their own gardens using whatever rules suit the situation.
There are two versions of the official game. Association, which is a game about tactics and skill, with long sequences of strokes put together, a bit like snooker on grass. Golf Croquet is a shorter game more popular with beginners, where the first team, one player or a pair, to get seven hoops are the winners.
Ramsgate Croquet Club (RCC) has four superb lawns which can be found at Westcliff Lawns on the Royal Esplanade next to Government Acre.
RCC is open from mid-march to Christmas, weather permitting. It is a thriving club which welcomes interested players over the age of 10, from complete beginners to experienced players.
The club offers evening events during the summer months for local groups of at least twenty people with mini croquet games followed by a supper with prizes for the winners.
If you are interested in playing, there are free introductory sessions every Saturday morning from 10am to 12noon.
Open Day is on Monday May 6 from 11am to 3pm.
