/ Looping the Loop, its more than just a festival...
For six years, theatre producers here in Thanet have been part of an amazing project with Battersea Arts Centre, London. Ramsgate Arts with director Ellie Jones and Bindlestick Theatre Company have run two festivals each year in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate, bringing in fantastic shows from Battersea and supporting theatre-makers here to make new work.
Our 12th festival runs from April 20 – 28 and welcomes people of all ages to take part. KALEIDOSCOPE is for babies 6-18 months, an experience of colour and light in a magical space;
NOW’S THE TIME TO SAY NOTHING, for adults, seats you in a chair with film, experiencing something of the situation of a young girl escaping from Syria; JULIET & ROMEO is dance-based, witty, bewitching, what could have happened if Shakespeare’s characters didn’t die in their love-tryst, but are here now, in the 21st century, as a young couple?
Our MadVentureVan, a tiny theatre in a caravan, will be out and about during the festival and every month from February, at events in Ramsgate and Thanet. There will be sightings of our Dog Agility Team, Librarians and other characters appearing in the town centre, Westwood Cross and other places, so watch out!
Looping the Loop is all about helping people to enjoy and take part in live performance, and to promote the talent here in Ramsgate and Thanet to the wider UK. If you are a performer, join our TNT (Theatre Network Thanet) and have free Flex workshops each week. If you want to produce or work in theatre somehow, just get in touch; we’ve all spent our lives working in the industry and want to ensure live theatre continues!
