Artist Geoffrey Reeve is showing a collection of over 22 original costume designs spanning the 1880s to 1920s in an exhibition ‘Around The Town’. With works by Wilhelm, 'Bert' Thomas MBE, Robert Crafter, Alfredo Colorno, Louis Besche and Attilio Comelli, they present a beautiful view of a select period of theatrical design, for musical comedy, dance and pantomime.

Geoffrey Reeve has been collecting designs and other ephemera of theatrical history since he was a stage hand in the 1970s. As for many art students, where his life would go and what he’d do to earn a living was a little vague. Paying his way through college by working backstage in most of London’s West End theatres added a new interest in the art of the designer, and especially for the wonderful Victorian and early Edwardian artists behind costumes and scenery.

A part of his collection will be on show and on sale at the gallery at Nice Things in Harbour Street, Ramsgate, from Wednesday October 3 until Tuesday 16. The gallery is open every day from 11am – 5pm.

People are welcome to attend a special Open Evening on Friday October 5 from 6pm - 8pm. We will be talking about the designs as well as seeing if we can solve any of the missing knowledge about the ones Geoffrey's not pinned down yet to a designer or a show. The beautiful designs are all framed and for sale.
