Film and TV Festival
Building upon the success of 2017, the Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival is coming back for its second edition on March 15 - 18, with more films, more events and more celebrities including Festival Patron, Brenda Blethyn. Submissions have come from the five continents with a massive 70% increase from last year, including some fabulous and moving documentaries as well as short films and features.

The Festival, held at the Granville Theatre and Cinema, will be true to its name with speakers from abroad as well as from our homeland. Local filmmakers will also be in the limelight with a dedicated section.

As 2018 marks the 60th Anniversary of the cult Carry On movies, Carry On legend Valerie Leon will be speaking about her time as a Carry On girl. Valerie, who starred in six classic Carry Ons, will be presenting an illustrated talk as an affectionate tribute to six main actors from the team. ‘Carry On Girls’ will be screened, followed by a Q&A hosted by the British Film Institute. It will be an opportunity to discuss the cult movies during their times and how politically incorrect they would be if they were made today, but how popular they still are now. General Box Office will open in February.

Another celebration is on the agenda with a special commemoration of Ramsgate-born Dame Lilian Braithwaite, a famous actress in the 1920s and 1930s, who lived in Ellington Road. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch one of her films.

As well as the Festival, the organisation is proud to announce the launch in January of its Filmmaking Courses in partnership with the Kent Film Foundation, with the first one taking place at Priory Infant School, culminating with the screening of movies made by six and seven year-olds, at the Granville Cinema as part of the Youth section.
