Canoeing the Ramsgate Kent Coast

Home / Active Ramsgate / Canoeing the Ramsgate Kent Coast
Canoeing is a great way to see Ramsgate from a different perspective, to immerse yourself in nature, test yourself against the elements and keep fit all at the same time.

Active Ramsgate have developed two canoe trails, one a group guided trail and the other self-guided. Both set out from Ramsgate but on very different routes.

The self-guided trail has been designed for the more experienced canoeist, and sets off from the slipway on the beach just a stone's throw away from the Royal Harbour. The route follows the coastline for two miles around to the pretty coastal town of Broadstairs. Then paddle back or get picked up!

Thanet Diving and Watersports also offer this trail as a guided paddle, supplying all equipment.

Our guided canoe trail is suitable for all abilities, and takes a safari through one of the UK's most important protected bird sites - Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve. It's a unique opportunity to spot wetland birds and seals in their natural environment. The route sets out from the slipway on the western end of the beach and takes from 2-3 hours through a mix of open sea and river.

To book onto this small group guided Wildlife Canoe Safari, simply contact responsible canoe operators, Canoe Wild and Thanet Diving and Watersports. Visit or call 07947 835688 for Canoe Wild, or visit or call 07981 551922 for Thanet Diving and Watersports.

If you don't have any canoe equipment, or don't want to use yours, don't worry! Both Canoe Wild and Thanet Diving and Watersports will hire out all the equipment you need. Sit-on-top kayaks along with double sit-in kayaks are available, so you don’t need to be an experienced canoeist to take part.

We'd love to hear and see you on your canoe trails, don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter and share your pictures with us!
