You would be forgiven for not having heard of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) a decade ago. Today, it’s one of the fastest-growing sports in Britain. Its popularity might be linked to pictures of celebrities such as Orlando Bloom and Katie Perry doing it in tropical locations.
Instagram is full of beautiful snaps of beautiful people looking incredibly athletic as they paddle along. But the beauty of paddleboarding is that, like cycling or walking, it is good exercise but it doesn’t require high fitness levels or strength. Okay, so after a few kilometres of paddling you will begin to feel the effects, but a reasonably fit person is capable of travelling a fair distance as a SUP newbie.
Before you paddle off into the sunset, it's advisable to have a lesson or two. Our local Kite Pirates Kite School
offer lessons, paddleboard hire and small group sea paddles at sunrise and sunset out of Ramsgate, along with Keep SUP Fit Classes for more experienced SUP warriors!
