The Ramsgate coast is an internationally important destination for wetland birds, making birdwatching a wonderful experience here all year round.

With some of the best examples of coastal wildlife habitats in the South East, the coast provides rich foraging and a temporary home for thousands of migratory and wintering wetland birds.

Great birdwatching destinations in the area include Ramsgate Royal Harbour, Sandwich & Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve and Monkton Nature Reserve.

Guided bird walks also take place at both Sandwich & Pegwell Bay NNR and around Ramsgate Harbour. Pre-booking is essential. To find out more about these walks, and to book, click on the link below.

“I’ve just been on the birdwatching tour at Pegwell bay with Tony Swandale which I won in the Active Ramsgate competition. It was absolutely brilliant. Tony was excellent, very knowledgeable and explained things very clearly and was very easy to talk to. It has totally re-kindled my interest in birdwatching, thanks very much!”
