We are looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to get involved across the project and help us in reducing isolation and loneliness, empowering communities, improving people’s mental and physical well-being and ensuring Thanet truly is a great place to grow older.
With our volunteers, we are interested in using your existing skills and hobbies to bring to life any activities that you would like to run or take part in, which will benefit people over the age of fifty. It could be anything from leading a lesson on teaching sign language, hosting a book club or a coffee morning, handing out leaflets and talking to people at events, to organising a local litter pick in your community. The possibilities of what we can do together are endless and the benefits of being involved within your local community are priceless.
There are countless benefits to becoming a volunteer, including making new friends, socialising, learning new skills and expertise and improving your general feelings of wellbeing. We would love to talk to you about volunteering with us. You can pop into our office at Mill Lane House, Mill Lane, Margate, CT9 1LB, for a cup of tea and a friendly chat, or we can come and meet you. Either way, we would love to see you!
We are also able to provide exciting training opportunities to enable you to develop the skills you may need in your volunteering role. The training could include social media, funding bid-writing or help in getting your community group constituted. Alternatively, if there is training that you think could really help you in the role we can look at providing that too.
Ageless Thanet is one of fourteen projects nationally, all funded through the Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Fulfilling Lives: Ageing Better’ programme. In 2015, we successfully secured £3 million over five years to reduce social isolation and loneliness, improve mental and physical health in older people and make Thanet a great place to grow older.
